Austrian retail sales year-on-year growth slowed to 0.1% in August 2025. This is down from 0.9% in July 2025 and is the lowest rate since July 2024. The slowdown occurred as Austria's annual inflation rate increased to 4.1% in August 2025 from 3.6% in July 2025. Higher energy, services and food prices drove inflation. Consumer confidence saw a slight monthly improvement in August. However, retail sector sentiment weakened. Overall consumer sentiment remained pessimistic due to expected financial constraints. Austria's record low retail sales yoy was -17.0% in April 2020 and record high was 22.3% in April 2021.
