Afghanistan's imports rose to $8.57 billion in 2019, up from $7.41 billion in 2018, according to the UN Comtrade Database. This represents an increase of 15.7% ($1.16 billion) from the previous year. Top imports for Afghanistan were Mineral fuels, oils, waxes, bitumen ($1.94 billion), Milling products, malt, starch, inulin, wheat ($592.77 million), Fats and oils, edible fats and waxes ($455.74 million). Afghanistan's top three import partners in 2019 were Iran (14.6%), China (13.9%), and Pakistan (12.9%), together accounting for 41.4% of total imports.
Afghanistan's trade deficit widened to $7.7 billion in 2019 from $6.52 billion in 2018. This shows an increase of 18% ($1.18 billion).
