Japan's annual CO2 emissions fell to 988.78 million tonnes in 2023, down from 1.03 billion tonnes in 2022, according to Global Carbon Budget. This represents a decrease of 4.3% (43.9 million) from the previous year. Japan has the 5th highest annual CO2 emissions. Other top countries are China, United States, India and Russia.
