South Korea Retail Sales YoY
South Korea's retail sales year-on-year declined by 0.5% in August 2025. This figure is the lowest recorded since February 2025. It follows a 2.5% growth in July 2025. The decrease was driven by weaker demand for durable goods like automobiles and household appliances and a drop in non-durable goods such as cosmetics and food. Department stores and online platforms also showed slower sales. This shift may be partly attributed to a base effect from July's surge with consumption coupon distributions potentially having a greater impact in July than in August.
