This stability is attributed to the Bank of Tanzania's monetary policy and is expected to continue due to moderate global oil prices, stable food supplies and exchange rate stability. Food inflation increased to 7.7% in August 2025 while core inflation remained stable at 2.0% in August 2025. Tanzania's record low inflation was 3% in November 2018 and record high was 6.8% in December 2015.

Tanzania's inflation rate measures the general increase in prices for goods and services within the country. It is calculated by the National Bureau of Statistics using the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The CPI tracks price changes for a fixed basket of goods and services including food, housing, transport and education. The annual inflation rate is the percentage change in the CPI from one year to the next.
