South Africa's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) reached 52.2 points in September 2025. This is the highest level since October 2024. The index was 49.5 points in August 2025. This represents a 5.5% rise. The expansion was driven by a recovery in domestic market demand. Business activity and new sales orders showed strong performance. Global demand remained under pressure due to U.S. tariffs and challenging trading environments. South Africa's record low Manufacturing PMI was 30.88 points in April 2020 and record high was 59.99 points in April 2021.
