Brazil Retail Sales YoY
Brazil's retail sales year-on-year slowed to 0.4% in August 2025 from 1.2% in July 2025. This deceleration was driven by sustained inflationary pressures and high benchmark interest rates including a 15% Selic rate in August 2025. These factors eroded household purchasing power, curtailed credit access and reduced consumer expenditure. A concurrent dip in consumer confidence by 2.1 points in August 2025 also contributed to the weaker performance. Brazil's record low retail sales yoy was -17.1% in April 2020 and record high was 23.7% in April 2021.
