France Housing Starts
France's housing starts fell to 13,504 units in August 2025. This is a 46.8% decrease from 25,400 units in July 2025. This August figure is the lowest since August 2024. The French construction sector is contracting. Activity is expected to fall by 2.6% in 2025, after a 3.9% drop in 2024. High interest rates and fewer building permits are negatively impacting the sector. The Cost-of-Construction Index decreased by 5.40% year-on-year in Q2 2025. France's record low housing starts was 9,410 units in August 2023 and record high was 56,046 units in December 2017.
