Malaysia Core Inflation Rate
Malaysia's core inflation rate increased to 2.1% in September 2025 from 2.0% in August 2025. This marks the highest rate since October 2023. The rise is attributed to sustained demand in the services sector, strong consumer spending and changes in administered prices and utility tariffs. Malaysia's record low core inflation rate was -0.2% in July 2018 and record high was 4.2% in November 2022.

Malaysia's core inflation rate measures price changes excluding volatile components like food and fuel. Bank Negara Malaysia calculates it using the Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket, removing 16 specific categories mainly volatile food prices and administered prices, to gauge underlying inflation trends.
